The May 9 Foundation and its president, Mr. Herbert Mensah, have expressed their profound shock and sorrow over the untimely passing of their dear friend and devoted supporter, Lawyer Stephen Boateng, also known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben. The foundation, which was founded in 2001 following the Accra Sports Stadium disaster, is deeply saddened by the loss of its original and most consistent champion.

Mr. Kesse, who was not only a generous donor but also a source of strength and unwavering support for the foundation, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, in Kumasi. His belief in the foundation's mission, which began with the aim to honor the 126 lives lost and support their families, played a crucial role in its growth into a movement that continues to benefit countless lives across Ghana.

Over the course of 25 years, Mr. Kesse consistently contributed financially, provided resources for annual remembrance walks, and ensured the success of charity events. His commitment was absolute, making him one of the earliest and most steadfast supporters of the foundation. In addition to his philanthropic efforts, Mr. Kesse's life story was an inspiration.

From a schoolteacher to the founder of a diverse business empire, spanning media, hospitality, education, and finance, he embodied the resilience, intellect, and duty that define the Ghanaian spirit.
