Republican nominee for Maine governor says he wants ICE agents at polling places in the state

Maine's Republican governor hopeful, Bobby Charles, has proposed having Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and U.S. Marshals at polling stations during the upcoming midterm elections. This proposal was revealed in audio obtained by The Associated Press, according to a report by the Bangor Daily News. Charles made the comments during an event in Arundel on August 20th, telling supporters he would "make an appeal for ICE and Marshals to be at our voting booths" three weeks before the election.

He explained his stance, stating that state and local authorities should maintain open communication with federal authorities to prevent violence, intimidation, and illegal activities at voting places. Charles emphasized that only legally entitled voters should be allowed to participate in the election process.
