Tim Curry, star of 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' and 'It', dies at 80

English actor Tim Curry, renowned for his role as Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, has passed away at the age of 80. Curry originated the character on stage before the film's release in 1975, which has since become a cult classic. Besides his iconic portrayal of the flamboyant scientist, Curry also played Pennywise the clown in Stephen King's TV adaptation of It and Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island.

Notable film appearances include Annie, The Hunt for Red October, and Home Alone 2, earning him three Tony Award nominations. Born in Cheshire in 1946, Curry's acting career began with the original London production of Hair in 1968. In 1973, he was cast in the role of Frank-N-Furter after being asked to audition by co-star Richard O'Brien.

The musical's popularity led to a film adaptation, which, despite an initial lackluster reception, became a fan favorite and holds the record for the longest-running theatrical release. Curry's career spanned various genres, from musicals to murder mysteries and fantasy, with notable roles in Annie, Clue, Legend, and Congo. In 2012, he suffered a major stroke, leading to the use of a wheelchair.

He dedicated his later years to voice acting and continued performing at film conventions. Curry published his memoir, Vagabond, last year. Grand Central Publishing expressed their deep sorrow over Curry's passing, praising his singular talent and the indelible mark he left on audiences. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed a death investigation for an 80-year-old man at a local residence on Tuesday evening.
