Tiffany Meek's trial resumes with court inspection of apartment complex linked to son's murder

The trial of Tiffany Meek, accused of murdering her 11-year-old son Jayden-Lee Meek, is set to resume in Johannesburg High Court on Wednesday. Meek, 32, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, child abuse, defeating the ends of justice, and crimen injuria. The court plans to conduct an in-person inspection of the Swazi Place apartment complex in Fleurhof where Jayden-Lee disappeared.

Mzwakhe Khumalo, Jayden-Lee's school transport driver, gave testimony on May 13, 2025, stating he picked up the boy from Royal College and dropped him off at the apartment complex around 4:30 pm. Khumalo mentioned that Jayden-Lee was wearing his red tracksuit and had his bag on his back when dropped off. However, he later discovered the boy was missing.

The court was informed that public accusations against Khumalo of involvement in the boy's death had severely impacted his income as a school transport driver. Meek maintained her son was in his school uniform on the day of his death, but school teacher Rethabile Maswangane testified he was instead wearing a red tracksuit.

In June, police Sergeant Rito Koveni provided testimony that Meek displayed no panic or concern during the search for Jayden-Lee, who went missing on May 13, 2025, after not returning home from school. Jayden-Lee's lifeless, half-naked body was discovered on May 14, 2025, near the staircase in the Swazi Place complex, mere meters from his home's front door. Meek was arrested on July 11, 2025, and has remained in custody since following a failed bail application.
