Three die after Toyota Vios and Honda City collide on JB-Mersing road

KOTA TINGGI, Aug 26 — A tragic accident on the Johor Bahru–Mersing Road claimed the lives of three individuals when a Toyota Vios collided with a Honda City on Monday evening. The incident occurred at KM 80, according to police. Supt Yusof Othman, the Kota Tinggi OCPD, reported receiving a call about the crash around 5:25pm. The Vios was driven by a 21-year-old local man alongside a 20-year-old local woman, while the Honda City was being piloted by a 35-year-old local man.

All three occupants were severely injured and succumbed to their injuries at the scene, receiving no further medical assistance. Their bodies have since been handed over to the Forensic Unit at Kota Tinggi Hospital for a thorough investigation. The incident will be scrutinized under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which mandates penalties ranging from five to ten years imprisonment, a fine of RM20,000 to RM50,000, and a minimum five-year driving ban for those found guilty.

Police are in the process of investigating the accident and have urged the public to come forward if they possess any information related to the crash. They can do so by contacting the Traffic Division at Kota Tinggi District Police Headquarters or any local police station. The police chief emphasized the importance of road users to remain cautious and abide by traffic regulations to enhance road safety.
