The epic La Tomatina food fight draws thousands to a small Spanish town

Buñol, a small Spanish town, hosted the annual La Tomatina food fight on Wednesday, attracting thousands of participants. Many were lured by a Bollywood film, "Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara," which recreated the event and introduced it to Indian audiences. Loaded trucks filled with overripe tomatoes drove through the crowd, with attendees throwing them at one another, turning white shirts pink and red.

Police attempted to disperse a section of the crowd using pepper spray, but the atmosphere remained festive. The messy hour-long melee took place under tarps covering buildings and involved over 20,000 people, with roughly 40% being tourists from outside Spain. Indian visitors, inspired by the Bollywood movie, made up a notable portion of the international attendees. After the festivities, a cannon blast signaled the end, and crowds washed off at communal showers.
