Selangor Sukma holiday on Sept 1 applies to federal, state civil servants

Shah Alam, August 26 — The Selangor state government has declared September 1 as a special holiday to celebrate the state's outstanding performance at the 2026 Malaysia Games, known as Sukma. This decision applies to all federal and state civil servants working in Selangor. State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin revealed that private-sector employers are encouraged to grant their employees a day off, depending on operational needs and the continuity of services.

The special holiday is governed by Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, which allows the state authority to designate a day as a public holiday for the state. Dr Ahmad Fadzli expressed hope that the victory would foster a sporting culture and inspire the people of Selangor to engage actively in sports and strive for excellence.

The Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, praised the Selangor contingent for their fighting spirit and discipline in clinching 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze medals, surpassing their target of 80 gold medals. This marks Selangor's 10th overall Sukma title, with previous wins in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013, and 2016.
