Selangor Sukma holiday on Sept 1 applies to federal, state civil servants

Selangor's state government has declared September 1 as a special holiday to celebrate the region's outstanding performance at the 2026 Malaysia Games (Sukma). This decision, announced by State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin, applies to all federal and state civil servants working in Selangor. The state also encouraged private-sector employers to grant their employees a day off at their discretion, considering operational needs and the continuity of services.

The special holiday is under Subsection 9(1) of the Holidays Act 1951, which allows the state authority to declare a public holiday for the state. Dr Ahmad Fadzli hopes this victory will foster a sporting culture and inspire Selangor residents to actively participate in sports and strive for excellence at the highest level.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari expressed his congratulations and appreciation to the Selangor contingent for their fighting spirit and discipline throughout Sukma 2026. The team secured an impressive total of 101 gold, 73 silver, and 71 bronze medals, surpassing its target of 80 gold medals. This achievement marks Selangor's 10th overall Sukma title, following wins in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2013, and 2016 in Sarawak.
