Schools closed today? Check Delhi-NCR and state-wise holiday status for August 26

Schools in various parts of India are set to observe a holiday on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, to mark Eid-e-Milad, also known as Milad-un-Nabi. However, the holiday does not result in a uniform school closure throughout the nation. School schedules are decentralized and determined by state holiday calendars, education departments, district orders, and individual institutions.

The Central Government adds Eid-e-Milad to the list of gazetted holidays for August 26. The National Portal of India provides separate holiday calendars for individual states and Union Territories, highlighting regional variations in observances.

The status of schools on August 26 varies by region. In Delhi-NCR, schools may be closed for Eid-e-Milad, but individual school calendars could have other holidays as well. Parents and students should verify their school's specific closure status. Similarly, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Manipur, and Uttarakhand have declared Eid-e-Milad or related holidays as gazetted holidays on August 26.

Kerala observes a different holiday on the same day, Thiruvonam, along with Eid-e-Milad. West Bengal lists Fateha-Dwaz-Daham as the gazetted holiday. Punjab's holiday status depends on its individual school calendars. In Andhra Pradesh, the holiday arrangements for Milad-un-Nabi are subject to change due to a recent shift in the date of the observance.
