Rijiju slams Khera over ‘indecent’ remarks on his swimming video

Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju denounced Congress lawmaker Pawan Khera for his "indecent" remarks about Rijiju's swimming video, warning that he would report Khera's "indiscipline conduct" to Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Rijiju posted the video on X, challenging senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to swim in a similar manner.

Khera mocked the video, calling it a "half-naked swim" and implying it showed how deeply Gandhi had unsettled the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Rijiju responded by questioning Khera's right to make such a remark, citing his own eight Lok Sabha election campaigns compared to Khera's single term in the Rajya Sabha. Rijiju explained that his swim was meant to inspire people in Arunachal Pradesh and had nothing to do with Gandhi.

The controversy stems from a fitness exchange between Rijiju and Gandhi, with Rijiju sharing an exercise routine video with Gandhi in December 2025, which Gandhi referenced in a recent Lok Sabha speech. The exchange between Khera and Rijiju highlights a longstanding rivalry between the Assam chief minister and Rijiju, with Khera previously facing arrest in 2023 for derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
