Reds starter Brady Singer says he's 'fine' after apparent injury

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Brady Singer was examined again on Wednesday, August 26, following an apparent rib injury sustained during a game on August 25. Singer continued playing despite the incident, which occurred after he slid awkwardly while covering a ground ball in the sixth inning. He later exited the game at the start of the next batter, having thrown 91 pitches.

Singer stated he felt fine and attributed the incident to a minor jam of his ribs. He had not missed a start in the past two seasons and had previously dealt with minor injuries, including a blister and bruised foot. Singer's performance initially suffered as he threw two wild pitches, one of which hit Giants' leadoff man Drew Gilbert.

However, he later settled down, allowing only two runs until Devers hit a crucial home run in the fifth inning. Reds manager Terry Francona initially expressed concern about Singer's injury but noted his ability to limit damage in the early innings and compete strongly like he always does. Singer was charged with an error on the play where he missed the ground ball and slid, but the trainer suggested the injury was more likely a bruise than a pull or strain.
