Prabowo Targets End to Indonesia's Forest Fires Within Two Weeks

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expressed optimism that forest and land fires in several regions could be brought under control within two weeks. During the launch of the 100 GW solar power program in Jembrana District, Bali, the president highlighted that the current global climate phenomenon, El Nino, has exacerbated the severity of Indonesia's dry season compared to previous years.

Prabowo visited wildfire response efforts in Kalimantan and Sumatra, expressing gratitude for the collaborative efforts of multiple ministries, agencies, regional governments, the police, and the military.

Authorities have mobilized sufficient equipment and personnel to prevent and combat wildfires across various regions, including the deployment of numerous helicopters and aircraft for water-bombing operations and the construction of boreholes to secure water supplies. Prabowo emphasized the thousands of joint personnel deployed to prevent and suppress wildfires nationwide.

The president expressed pride in the progress made by ground personnel, stating that they are strong and capable of overcoming obstacles and challenges. Furthermore, he recalled the government's swift response to disasters in Sumatra last November and ongoing relief operations in East Nusa Tenggara following a deadly earthquake in Flores on August 15.
