Police probe bomb threat emails sent to about 40 courts

Police are investigating anonymous emails that threatened to bomb approximately 40 courthouses nationwide, according to a report by Yonhap news agency on August 26. The emails, received by notable courts such as the Seoul Eastern District Court, Incheon District Court, and Busan High Court, claimed that explosives had been planted and were set to detonate at a specific time.

However, police determined that the likelihood of actual explosives being present was low. The Supreme Court confirmed that the 40 or so courts had indeed received these threatening emails, stating that police officers had conducted searches and other operations at the affected locations. The Korean National Police Agency suspects the latest threatening emails might be part of a series of hoax threats originating from Japan, which have been repeatedly sent since 2023.
