Police confiscate suspected cocaine worth over R200 mln at OR Tambo

At the OR Tambo International Airport, located east of Johannesburg, police have confiscated suitcases containing blocks of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding R200 million. The seizures involved two separate consignments of the suspected drugs. According to National Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe, no arrests have been made at this stage.

The first interception took place at the airport terminal, where two large travel suitcases were seized. These suitcases were found to contain blocks of suspected cocaine weighing around 84 kilograms. In a separate operation at the cargo section, four boxes packed with approximately 250 kilograms of suspected cocaine were intercepted.

This cocaine was divided into 220 blocks. The combined estimated street value of the drugs seized at OR Tambo is more than R200 million. Lieutenant General Dimpane praised the multidisciplinary team for their vigilance and ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking at major international entry points across the country.
