Philadelphia's Chucky-style masked man arrested in Las Vegas
U.S. Marshals say 22-year-old Zymire Hughes was arrested Tuesday night in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Zymire Hughes, a 22-year-old man from Philadelphia, was apprehended in Las Vegas on Tuesday in connection with a series of terrifying incidents. Authorities allege that Hughes terrorized at least six individuals wearing a Chucky-style mask near Philadelphia City Hall on August 12.
The U.S. Marshals Service reported that Hughes, who has been a resident of Las Vegas since February but maintains family ties in Philadelphia, was apprehended at an apartment complex in southeast Las Vegas around 8 p.m. He is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center awaiting extradition back to Philadelphia.
According to Robert Clark, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal for the Eastern Pennsylvania Violent Crime Fugitive Task Force, Hughes' use of the mask allowed him to believe he could evade law enforcement, but he was mistaken. Clark emphasized that the arrest sends a clear message that even hiding one's face cannot shield one from elite U.S. Marshal Service investigators.
The threats allegedly began at 5:18 a.m. at the intersection of 15th and Chestnut streets, where Hughes chased and intimidated multiple people over a 15-minute period. One woman claimed Hughes asked her if she was "ready to die," which left her injured and scrambling away. Hughes was subsequently seen on camera attempting to gain entry to a Dunkin' Donuts on Chestnut Street, but was denied service due to his mask.
He was later spotted running towards people near Penn Square at City Hall around 5:25 a.m. Hughes was later apprehended after fleeing to Suburban Station.
Hughes has been charged with aggravated assault, terroristic threats, and related offenses.
