PCB Finds New Fast Bowler Who Can Bowl at a Speed of More Than 150 Km/h

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has discovered a promising fast-bowling prospect, Qayyum Khan, who possesses the ability to bowl at speeds exceeding 150 km/h. Hailing from Jhang, Khan is currently receiving training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore. Khan was identified through the Prime Minister’s Talent Hunt Program and has previously represented Punjab in the President’s Trophy Grade-II Silver competition.

Aaqib Javed, PCB Director of High Performance, has praised Khan as one of Pakistan’s most promising emerging fast bowlers, with the capability to consistently reach speeds of approximately 150 km/h, occasionally surpassing that mark.

To further develop Khan, the PCB is organizing a specialized five-day fast-bowling camp at the NCA, from August 24 to 28. The camp, which includes 12 fast bowlers in total, is focusing on refining technical and tactical aspects of fast bowling, with coaches also reviewing the participants' recent performances. Ashley Noffke, Pakistan’s white-ball fast-bowling coach, is also participating in the program.

Khan is not the only express pacer being nurtured by the PCB. Other young bowlers, such as Ali Raza, Razaullah, Abdul Subhan, and Abuzar, have also demonstrated the ability to reach speeds above 145 km/h. Aaqib Javed stated that the PCB aims to develop three to four fast bowlers capable of consistently reaching the 150 km/h mark, as the country seeks to bolster its pace resources.

Historically, Pakistan has produced some of the world’s fastest bowlers, and this new development program indicates that the PCB is now making a focused effort to discover the next generation of genuine express pacers.

For Qayyum, the NCA camp could serve as a crucial stepping stone towards domestic cricket and, potentially, a future call-up to the Pakistan national team.
