Sankofa Medical Charities, a US-based non-governmental organization, has made a donation of medical equipment to the Dialysis Unit of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH). During the presentation of the donated items, Dr. Al-Majeed Adam, the Secretary of Sankofa Medical Charities, emphasized that effective hospital operations necessitate appropriate equipment. He highlighted that underserved facilities frequently lack essential medical tools, and well-equipped hospitals result in more accurate diagnoses and reduced patient waiting times.
In sharing his experience, Dr. Adam recounted an instance when he arrived at the Emergency Room and observed numerous patients lying on the floor with blood-stained clothing. Deeply saddened, he spoke with the hospital's doctor, who informed him that the facility lacked sufficient beds, forcing patients to wait on the floor for treatment. Moved by this sight, Dr. Adam approached Sankofa Medical Charities. Recognizing the urgent need, he led the organization to deliver 15 recliner chairs and four dialysis machines.
Plans are currently underway to open a dialysis unit at the Yendi Government Hospital. Dr. Adam stated that the dialysis machines have not been utilized for the past two years. Before dispatching them to Yendi, the organization intends to have them serviced. The decision on where to send the machines will be made after they undergo servicing.
Currently, Tamale Teaching Hospital houses nine dialysis machines, but regions such as Yendi lack any facilities. Given the extensive catchment area, patients must travel to Tamale for treatment.
