NFR Construction GM Conducts Inspection of Key Sections of Jiribam – Imphal New Line Project

General Manager Ashish Bansal of the Northeast Frontier Railway (Construction) recently inspected key sections of the Jiribam – Imphal New Line Railway Project. This crucial railway line, spanning 110.625 km, traverses challenging terrain in the Northeast, including extensive tunneling and bridge construction. The project, comprising 65 tunnels and 15 major bridges, aims to provide direct rail connectivity to Imphal, the capital of Manipur, enhancing transportation and fostering regional development.

During the inspection, Bansal evaluated the progress of construction works along the Jiribam – Khongsang, Khongsang – Awangkhul, and Awangkhul – Imphal sections. He paid special attention to the Khongsang–Awangkhul yards, preparing for an upcoming Comprehensive Railway Safety (CRS) inspection scheduled for October 2026. Additionally, the tunnels Nos. 28 and 12 were part of the inspection, along with an assessment of tunneling works in progress.

The Jiribam – Imphal New Line comprises 54 tunnels, 15 major bridges, and 116 minor bridges, including the tallest bridge in Noney, which stands at 141 meters. The project's focus on advanced construction techniques and stringent safety measures underscores its significance in challenging geological and mountainous conditions. Bansal emphasized the importance of maintaining high safety, construction quality, and timely execution standards throughout the project's remaining phases, which are expected to be completed by 2026.

This railway line will greatly improve connectivity between Manipur and the rest of India, facilitating the movement of people and goods and contributing to economic and social growth in the region.
