Muslim faithful march to Area 1 for Maulud celebration

On Monday, a vibrant procession of Muslim faithful journeyed through sections of Abuja en route to Area 1 for the commemoration of this year's Maulud celebration. The throng comprised men, women, and children, all adorned in white robes, hijabs, and other traditional garb. Vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles wove through the crowd, with some participants bearing banners and large portraits to enliven the event.

Maulud, or Mawlid, is observed by numerous Muslims to honor the birth and life of Prophet Muhammad, a day marked by prayers, religious instruction, remembrance, and contemplation on the principles of Islam.

For many attending the Area 1 gathering, the procession was more than a mere parade. It served as a chance to recall the teachings of the Prophet and to spread messages of peace, love, and unity among Nigerians. Haruna Salilu, one of the participants, participated due to the significance of remembering the Prophet Muhammad's life and lessons. "We celebrate Maulud to reflect on the Prophet's life and the wisdom he imparted," he explained. "His message centered on peace, kindness, and fostering good relations with others."

Nura Musa, another attendee, highlighted how the gathering united Muslims and reinforced community ties. "The Maulud celebration brings us together, strengthening the bonds among our community members," she remarked.
