After 18 years in limbo, National Library finally gets new lease of life

After 18 years of delays, Nigeria's National Library finally receives new life. The project, which began in 2006, had been abandoned by 2008. Recent efforts to revive the unfinished complex have gained traction under the Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Tunji Alausa. The latest development includes a contract augmentation for completion and furnishing the Abuja headquarters.

Additionally, N25 billion was donated by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, for the project. Despite its long-standing aim to preserve Nigeria's intellectual heritage, the library complex has been a casualty of governance challenges. However, with renewed political will, funding, and international collaboration, the institution could become a modern knowledge hub.
