Mumbai: JCB Driver Booked After Iron Channel Hits 17-Year-Old Student During BMC Demolition Drive In Vidyavihar

Mumbai, August 26, 2026: Police have filed charges against JCB operator Mehtab Mehdi Hasan, 25, following a collision that left 17-year-old Deven Jain with severe injuries. The accident transpired during a BMC road expansion and eviction project on August 25 at Station Road in Vidyavihar (East). The incident unfolded when an iron C-channel detached from a demolished building and crashed onto the road, hitting the teenager as he walked home with his cousin.

Deven, a first-year B.Com student at S.K. Somaiya College, was severely hurt and taken to Rajawadi Hospital for treatment. His father, Vinod Bhimrao Jain, 42, a scrap dealer from Bhandup West, assisted paramedics in rushing Deven to the hospital. Police delved into the incident and registered a case against Hasan for allegedly disregarding safety protocols during the demolition work, resulting in the student's injuries.

The FIR stated that the JCB, registered under MH-03-ER-7021, was being utilized for the demolition of a shop when the channel dislodged and struck Deven near Tip Top Lodge. The preliminary probe revealed a lack of sufficient safety measures to safeguard pedestrians during the operation. Deven's condition continues to be monitored at Rajawadi Hospital as the police probe intensifies.
