(LEAD) Chinese man questioned over alleged murder in Gyeongsan

GYEONGSAN — Police have questioned a Chinese man in his 30s over the alleged murder of a female graduate student from China, whose body was discovered in Gyeongsan, southeastern South Korea. According to Gyeongsan Police Station, the victim, a local university student in her 20s, was found dead at the suspect's residence on Tuesday, following a five-day period of lost communication and four days since she was reported missing by him.

The suspect, identified only as Jeong, was apprehended on a city street on Tuesday and detained at the police station the same day. Police stated they intend to perform an autopsy to ascertain the exact cause and time of death before transferring the body to the victim's family. A relative residing in Korea has been notified of the student's passing.

Sources close to the victim have confirmed that the suspect and the victim were acquainted. Police have not yet disclosed any further details about the alleged crime.
