Late Sharon Otieno’s family expresses fear for their lives

Eight years following the murder of Sharon Otieno, her family remains fearful for their own safety and security. Despite the High Court convicting former Migori governor Zachariah Okoth Obado, along with his personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Migori County clerk Casper Obiero, for Sharon's murder, her family continues to live in fear.

According to a probation officer's victim impact statement, the family insists that the actual killers remain at large, which further puts them at risk. "The secondary victims noted that the main perpetrators of Sharon's murder are still at large. This further compromises their safety and security," the report states. The family also reveals that they fear re-victimization, fearing what might happen to them following the sentence.

They express concern over the actions of Oyamo and Obiero, who they believe bear the greatest responsibility for Sharon's death. The family's fear is heightened by the events that transpired in court during the judgement, including Obado's hostile relationship with Sharon, who allegedly refused to grant him an abortion, and Oyamo's fraudulent use of an Airtel line to conceal communications with Sharon and other witnesses.

Despite this, the family remains uncertain of the identity of Sharon's actual killers and continues to live in fear.
