Khairy seeks court order against MYNIC to uncover identity of ‘Corruption Watch’ author

Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has taken legal action against national domain registry MYNIC Berhad to uncover the identity of the author of an online portal associated with a defamatory article. Khairy filed a pre-action discovery application in court to obtain the registered owner's identity card, corporate details, contact information, and administrative records related to the focusmalaysia.my domain name.

The article, published under the pseudonym "Corruption Watch" on March 10, questioned Khairy's suitability to become Prime Minister. MYNIC confirmed it holds the domain's registration information but opposed Khairy's request for correspondence and communication records between the registry, registrant, and accredited registrar, stating these details are irrelevant to the defamation suit.

The registry is willing to hand over the requested information if directed by a court order and emphasized that it is an innocent third party, not the intended defendant, seeking indemnity against potential liabilities arising from compliance with the disclosure order.
