Johor schools to halt outdoor activities when API exceeds 100

Johor schools will halt outdoor activities, including sports and co-curricular programs, when the Air Pollutant Index (API) exceeds 100, according to State Education and Information Committee chairman Dr Muhammad Naqib Md Ghazali. Schools must monitor local API readings and adjust activities accordingly. When the API surpasses 100, all outdoor activities should be postponed, including sports, co-curricular activities, and outdoor programs.

If the API rises above 200, schools in affected areas or districts should close, as per directives. An API reading between 0 and 50 signifies good air quality, 51 to 100 indicates moderate quality, 101 to 200 denotes unhealthy air, 201 to 300 signifies very unhealthy air, and anything above 300 is considered hazardous. Naqib emphasized that student and staff health and safety are paramount, urging schools to monitor API readings routinely and keep students indoors when conditions worsen.

He also recommended seeking medical attention for students displaying illness symptoms. Parents who are concerned about their children's health may also keep them at home. Public examinations and assessments should continue as scheduled. The public is encouraged to monitor the latest API readings via the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System.
