In a tweet, Ghalibaf called Bessent's sanctions an "Economic D-Day" and questioned the wisdom of potentially disrupting the global financial system. Ghalibaf mocked Bessent, saying, "Sir, this ain't Normandy, this is improv night, and you forgot your own script."

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baghaei, warned that US economic pressure extends beyond Tehran. In response to the US sanctions on Chinese entities, China's President Xi Jinping has signaled defiance towards the Trump administration. Beijing emphasized that its relationship with Iran should not be disrupted or undermined.

China, being Iran's biggest oil buyer, has reportedly stepped in as an economic lifeline for Tehran. US oil prices fell on Wednesday, extending the previous day's losses, as traders hope that the Strait of Hormuz could reopen following Iran's resumption of talks with Oman regarding the strategic waterway.
