Honda Addresses Fernando Alonso’s Amid Aston Martin Struggles

Honda's engine supplier, Honda, has expressed a strong desire for Fernando Alonso to remain with Aston Martin, despite the team's struggles. The driver, who is nearing retirement age, remains undecided about his future. Aston Martin has faced setbacks in recent years due to their inability to capitalize on off-track investments, leading them into a difficult position for the upcoming 2026 season.

This is primarily due to Honda's challenges in developing a reliable power unit. The British team's performance has been lackluster, often failing to finish races and generally lagging behind the competition. However, they have shown signs of improvement in the latter part of the season, with Alonso securing a ninth-place finish at the Dutch Grand Prix on his second-spec engine, which boasts enhanced reliability and performance.

Honda's president, Koji Watanabe, praised Alonso as a "fantastic driver" and highlighted the importance of working with him. He believes Alonso's insights are invaluable in driving Honda's development forward. Despite the current setbacks, Honda remains committed to Alonso and aims to become one of the leading teams in Formula 1 with his support.
