GTA 6 Leaks 'Heartbreaking,' Rockstar Says as Game Nears Release

Rockstar Games has spoken out regarding the recent leaks of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) gameplay footage, describing the unauthorized release as "heartbreaking" and emphasizing that the long-awaited game is now "nearly ready." In a statement issued on August 26, the company acknowledged the disappointment this leak had caused to fans after months of anticipation.

Rockstar expressed regret over the delay in the development process, highlighting that the game is "nearly there" after years of work. The studio apologized for the extensive time it took to finalize and release details about GTA 6, including the official gameplay footage. The company is determined to deliver the game at the level fans expect, despite the challenges posed by the leaks.

Ahead of the planned release of GTA 6: An Extended Look, a preview slated for premiere on Netflix on August 27, Rockstar emphasized that preparing this preview had taken longer than expected. They remain committed to meeting fan expectations and acknowledged that the leaks could spoil the experience for some players due to potential exposure to spoilers.

GTA 6 is set to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar’s parent company, has also taken legal action to identify individuals involved in the distribution of the leaked material. Subpoenas have been issued to Microsoft, Discord, X, and Google-owned YouTube, targeting accounts and servers believed to be involved in the unauthorized distribution of GTA 6 footage.
