From Johor to Sentul: Police arrest three more over racing stunt on Second Link

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Police have apprehended three additional individuals in connection with an illicit racing incident that occurred on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link Expressway on Aug 22, the Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department has announced. The suspects, aged between 30 and 40, were apprehended at 1.30 am in a Sentul condominium's parking area, according to Datuk Seri Muhammed Hasbullah Ali, director of the department.

All suspects attempted to escape during the arrest but were apprehended by law enforcement. "Among the three arrested, one is believed to be a race rider, while the other two were spectators," Ali stated. All three suspects have been transferred to the Kulai Traffic Police Station in Johor for further investigation. The case is being handled under Section 42(1) and Section 81(2) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he informed.

Muhammed Hasbullah emphasized that stringent measures will persist against those involved in illegal racing activities that pose a threat to road users. On Aug 24, police had granted an eight-day remand to eight individuals, including a motoring influencer, linked to the incident. The event gained widespread attention on social media following the release of video footage showcasing a group halting traffic to engage in racing.
