Family seeks NTA overhaul after Hyderabad NEET aspirant’s death

Nearly two months after the death of 18-year-old NEET aspirant Juveriya, her parents have publicly called for the abolition of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and a complete overhaul of the medical entrance exam system. The sisters, Juveriya and Aisha, both achieved high marks in their Intermediate exams, with Juveriya scoring 974 and Aisha scoring 984 out of 1,000.

Despite their academic success, the sisters appeared to suffer psychological distress ahead of the NEET re-exam scheduled for June 21. Juveriya had taken a break between attempts due to financial constraints, eventually scoring only 336 marks in her first reattempt. She committed suicide on June 15, less than a week before the exam date.

Her sister, Aisha, did not take the re-examination and has withdrawn from social interactions since her sister's death. The family's uncle, Mohammed Nayazoor Rahaman, expressed devastation over the loss and emphasized the need for justice, urging the NTA to be abolished entirely and for fundamental changes to be made in the system.
