Factbox-From Australia to Europe, countries move to curb children’s social media access

In recent years, countries around the world have been taking steps to regulate access to social media for children due to concerns over the impact of these platforms on children's health and safety. Australia, in December, became the first country to ban social media for children under 16. Major tech firms operating in Britain, China, Denmark, France, Greece, India, Malaysia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates are also working on similar regulations.

Meta agreed to pay up to $18 billion to resolve claims in the U.S. that its platforms are designed to addict children. In the U.S., a proposed bill aims to force social media companies to exercise reasonable care in designing features that could harm minors.
