Ex-Kaduna governorship aspirant Yusuf Zariyi dumps NDC

Former Kaduna governorship aspirant Yusuf Zariyi, previously of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his departure from the party and defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The announcement was made during a press conference in Kaduna on Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2026. Zariyi cited his commitment to justice, good governance, and the improvement of living conditions for Nigerians as the driving force behind his decision.

This move followed extensive consultations with stakeholders, personal experiences, and a review of the NDC's platform. Zariyi's entry into politics was motivated by a dedication to justice, community development, and advocacy for vulnerable members of society. He had previously considered various political platforms before joining the NDC, believing it would provide an avenue for advancing his vision of accountable governance and better opportunities for Nigerians.

However, disheartened by the party’s governorship primary and subsequent events, Zariyi concluded that the NDC was no longer the appropriate platform for pursuing his objectives. He emphasized that his political ambition was rooted in the desire to influence policies and improve the lives of ordinary citizens, rather than personal gain.

Zariyi urged his supporters not to abandon their grassroots activities and assured them that his commitment to supporting communities would persist, regardless of his change in political affiliation.
