Europe Must Not Grow Tired of Supporting Ukraine — Lithuanian President

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda urged Europe to continue supporting Ukraine, following his recent meeting with European Council President António Costa. Nausėda highlighted that both leaders had recently returned from Ukraine, where they observed the ongoing battle for Ukraine's freedom, independence, and Europe's security.

Nausėda emphasized that Europe must not allow its support for Ukraine to wane, but rather, it must provide more substantial assistance. He stressed the importance of providing Ukraine with adequate and long-term financial and military aid, as well as increasing pressure on Russia. Nausėda also called for the European Union to proceed with the 22nd package of sanctions against Russia, targeting sectors that finance the Russian war effort, the energy sector, financial system, and shadow fleet.

The president stressed Ukraine's future within the European Union and urged the accession process for both Ukraine and Moldova to move forward without delay. He further stated that negotiations on the remaining four clusters of Ukraine's EU accession talks should commence by the end of 2026. Lithuania intends to prioritize European security and defense, continued support for Ukraine, EU enlargement, competitiveness, preparedness for hybrid threats, and the protection of external borders during its EU Council presidency in January 2027.
