Dubai Police deploys 253 patrols, 28 drones for new school year

The Ghana Police Service plans to deploy a new technology called TrafficTech to decrease the number of direct encounters between police officers and motorists while enforcing road traffic laws. Assistant Commissioner of Police Alexander Kwaku Obeng revealed this during an interview on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on August 26.

The technology relies on various digital devices, such as cameras, smartphones, and other electronic equipment to gather evidence of traffic violations. This approach deviates from the traditional method of stopping suspected offenders on the road to collect evidence, which involves police officers.

Instead, under the new TrafficTech system, officers will deploy independently operated cameras, handheld devices, and poles or tripod-mounted systems to record traffic offenses. Additionally, the police are developing a mobile application that will allow officers to use personal digital assistants, Android devices, and smartphones to document traffic violations.

Obeng stated that the police are actively building their capacity and rapidly developing software applications to support the new TrafficTech system. The required hardware and software have already been procured and are undergoing testing, while the necessary back-office infrastructure has been established.

The primary goal of this initiative is to provide a more efficient and less intrusive method for tracing offending motorists, issuing court notices, and pursuing prosecution, all without immediately taking drivers to police stations.
