Didiza survives motion-of-no-confidence vote

The motion of no confidence against National Assembly Speaker Thoko Didiza was defeated in a recent vote. The motion was introduced by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) against Didiza's decision not to support President Cyril Ramaphosa's request for an urgent interdict in the Western Cape High Court to halt the impeachment process against him.

During the debate, EFF leader Julius Malema claimed Didiza lacked impartiality and prioritized her political party, while ANC Chief Whip Mdumiseni Ntuli argued that Didiza had acted promptly to implement the Constitutional Court's May ruling to establish an Impeachment Committee. The Deputy Speaker, Dr Annelie Lotriet, announced that 101 MPs voted in favor of the motion and 282 MPs voted against it, resulting in the motion being not agreed to.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) also expressed disagreement with Didiza's approach but believed that her removal was not warranted. The MKP supported the motion, stating that Didiza had abandoned Parliament by complying with the court order.
