DBMatic and Weforsea Shipping turn long-standing collaboration into maritime technology company MariControl

DBMatic, a subsidiary of De Boer Marine, and Weforsea Shipping have combined forces to establish MariControl, a maritime data technology company formed through their longstanding collaboration. DBMatic contributes expertise in onboard hardware and data infrastructure, while Weforsea Shipping brings software and maritime digitalization skills to the table.

This partnership emerged from the two companies' increasing involvement in various stages of the same vessel data chain. By unifying data collection, onboard hardware, connectivity, software, and AI-driven analysis, MariControl seeks to provide shipowners and operators with a comprehensive platform for data collection, interpretation, and utilization.

The core technology of MariControl is already deployed on over 250 vessels, such as the modern fishing trawler UK225 Auke Senior, where DBMatic hardware and sensors are seamlessly integrated with Weforsea's software. This integration offers voyage optimization, energy-efficiency insights, market data, and weather information via a unified dashboard.

As the shipping and fishing industries confront mounting pressure to cut fuel consumption and emissions, simplify reporting obligations, and transform burgeoning amounts of onboard data into actionable operational insights, MariControl aims to connect onboard sensors, equipment, and communication infrastructure with software, dashboards, and AI-driven analytics.

Rather than introducing an additional standalone system, MariControl will synthesize all these elements into a single, cohesive platform designed to enhance the usability of vessel data in both on-board and ashore decision-making processes.

MariControl's applications encompass vessel performance monitoring, predictive maintenance, weather routing, fuel and emissions optimization, digital reporting and compliance, as well as AI-supported tools tailored for the fishing industry. For instance, the platform could aid in identifying the most fuel-efficient route considering weather conditions and voyage duration.

MariControl's Managing Director, Louwe Post, emphasizes, "The future of the maritime industry does not lie in standalone systems, but rather in a cohesive ecosystem where data, hardware, and AI work harmoniously together. MariControl brings those components together in one platform."

Initially, MariControl will concentrate on digital reporting and compliance by leveraging existing data from vessels to alleviate administrative burdens for shipowners and crew members. This approach aligns with the growing digitization of maritime reporting and escalating regulatory demands. MariControl will initially target customers in the Netherlands and the broader European market, with plans to expand globally in the years ahead.

Existing customers of DBMatic and Weforsea Shipping will retain their current service agreements, installed systems, and points of contact.
