Buang budaya selesa boleh lemahkan negara, kata Anwar

Perdana Menteri Anwar Ibrahim emphasized the need to reject the culture of contentment during the 80th anniversary celebration of Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) in Cyberjaya today. In his speech, he urged everyone to stop accepting the old culture, stating that Malaysia cannot succeed if it continues to maintain the old tradition. He warned that the nation can become weak or slow if this culture of contentment is applied.

Anwar cautioned that even companies can lose 10 to 12 billion ringgit, but they still consider it normal and acceptable. He stressed that such a culture will ultimately lead to the downfall of the country, and there must be a strong commitment to curb the culture of contentment. Anwar argued that the current generation needs to be educated and instilled with new discipline in modern technology to ensure the country can keep pace with the rapidly changing world.

He emphasized the need for new generations to be equipped with new knowledge and discipline. Anwar also praised TM for not only focusing on profit but also on social responsibility towards employees. He reiterated TM's impressive achievements, not just for Malaysia but for the region as well, highlighting the company's reputation.

He expressed that TM and MMU are ready to embrace new developments in multimedia and artificial intelligence, proving the importance of local institutions and companies to stay ahead in the face of changing times. Anwar stated that Malaysia needs not only to focus on aspects of advancement but also to ensure the country has a culture of striving for excellence in all fields.

In doing so, he said, TM's progress should go beyond its traditional role as a telecommunications service provider and also become a pioneer in strategic areas such as cybersecurity and future technology.
