BSIFF 2026 official selection brings films from 11 countries to Kumasi

The Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) has announced its 2026 Official Selection, showcasing films from 11 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean for the festival's 11th edition in Kumasi. Among the featured films are Adui from Uganda, Yesterday Today Forever from the United States, Boy No Fear from Uganda, The Devil's Diary representing Nigeria and South Africa, and Lights Out from Cameroon.

From Ghana, the selection includes Legacy Africa, Ashes of Accra, Love Is Death, King of Tema, Sesime, and Home, Or Our Journey Is Still Long. The Student Showcase features The City of God Beneath the River from Ghana, Ananse and the Divine Journey from the United States, and The Weavers Thread from Ghana. The Documentary selection comprises We Won't Let You Poison Us from Ghana, Agridulce (Bittersweet) from the Dominican Republic, and Akwaaba from Singapore.

Africa Rising highlights Dead Tide from Nigeria and Almost Forever from Ghana. The Animation section showcases Tales of Herding Gods: Prologue from China. AI-generated films include The Legend of William Boucher: The Blood Curse from the United States. Kumawood, the city's distinct filmmaking tradition, is represented by Suluku directed by Nicholas Kwarteng, Frank Gharbin, and Francis Asamoah.

Special screenings include Nelson Mandela: The Man Behind the Legend from Russia, Captain Ibrahim Traore from Ghana, and God Sleeps on Sunday from Zimbabwe. The festival will explore four key areas of development - Local Language Cinema, Building African Audiences, Mental Health for Creatives, and AI & the Future of African Storytelling. BSIFF 2026 will run from 24-27 September 2026 at Golden Eagle Cinemas, Kumasi.
