Bersatu Youth chief hints at possible cooperation with Selangor government

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Bersatu Youth chief Hilman Idham has hinted that his party might cooperate with the Selangor government belonging to Pakatan Harapan till its current term ends. Gombak Setia assemblyman Hilman commented on the recent pledge of support from two Bersatu representatives in Pahang who aligned with Barisan Nasional Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

Hilman stated that such a political arrangement is "not impossible" and that Bersatu has previously worked with various political parties, including BN and Harapan, with the primary consideration being the people's interests.

Amirudin Shari, Selangor Menteri Besar, expressed openness to working with any party, including Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional, as long as it ensures political stability and benefits the public. Both Amirudin and Hilman belong to the Selangor People's Alliance (PN), with Hilman being a former PKR leader who left the party during the Sheraton Move. Hilman's comments come as political realignments are being discussed ahead of the next state election.

Former Selangor MB and Hulu Kelang assemblyman Azmin Ali, who heads Bersatu in the state assembly, is the one who leads the state's PN faction. In the Pahang assembly, two Bersatu representatives recently switched allegiance to support Wan Rosdy. In Melaka, Bersatu has also indicated willingness to discuss potential collaboration with parties having shared objectives, such as the PH, in assessing possible electoral arrangements.

Hilman believes that the recent political shift in Pahang could set the stage for similar agreements elsewhere, which could strengthen programs and initiatives for the people of Selangor. Currently, PH holds 32 out of the 56 seats in the Selangor legislative assembly, while BN has two seats, and Bersatu controls 11, while PAS secures 10 seats, with Abdul Rashid Asari being an independent aligned with Amirudin's administration.
