Autobranche: Kein Tesla-Rückruf in Europa wegen versenkbarer Türgriffe

Amsterdam and Frankfurt - In contrast to China, Europe currently has no recall of Tesla vehicles due to safety issues with electronically controlled, retractable door handles. The Dutch licensing authority RDW confirmed to Reuters on Wednesday that there is currently no recall for the relevant electric vehicles in Europe. However, the authority considers it a problem if, in the event of a power failure, the retractable car doors cannot be opened intuitively and without tools from the outside or inside.

In China, Tesla and eight other manufacturers, such as Xiaomi, Leapmotor, or Xpeng, are being recalled. Out of the 4.3 million affected vehicles, nearly three million are Tesla models. The incidents involve accidents where passengers could not exit or be rescued from the car because the electronically controlled door handles would not open.

In many cases, the recall is due to the mechanical emergency release being difficult to find and operate in the event of an accident. A tragic incident in Germany last year resulted in the death of three people in a Tesla.
