Atubolu to join Onyedika at Frankfurt

Super Eagles-eligible goalkeeper Noah Atubolu is set to join Raphael Onyedika at Eintracht Frankfurt following SC Freiburg's progress in settling his transfer situation. The 24-year-old goalkeeper, who had been under contract until June 2027, has now agreed to an extension with Freiburg, allowing for a potential loan move to Frankfurt.

This arrangement will protect Freiburg's financial interests while Atubolu fulfills his contract. Atubolu, valued at a fee around €15 million, had previously rejected an extension and aimed for a Premier League move, though no offers materialized. He has been a first-choice goalkeeper at Freiburg for three years, contributing to their near-final appearance in the 2026 UEFA Europa League and making 36 Bundesliga appearances last season.

Freiburg had initially signed Mio Backhaus from Werder Bremen to compete for the starting spot, but Frankfurt's lackluster pre-season performance against Brentford sparked a search for a new goalkeeper. Frankfurt sees Atubolu as a solution after their 7-0 pre-season loss, offering him a loan deal as a bridge to a potential permanent transfer.
