Assam Rifles, DRI Seize Yaba Tablets Worth ₹168 Crore In Cachar; 1 Held

Guwahati, August 26 - The Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Silchar, have intercepted a massive narcotics haul worth approximately Rs 168 crore in the Cachar district. The operation, carried out jointly by the two agencies, targeted an inter-state narcotics trafficking network in and around Jujhang Pahar, Lakhipur, on the night of August 25-26.

During the raid, officers seized 560,000 Yaba tablets, weighing around 60 kg and estimated to be worth Rs 168 crore. One individual suspected of drug peddling was arrested, and a Tata truck believed to be part of the smuggling operation was also seized.

The confiscated narcotics are believed to have potentially originated from Manipur and were reportedly en route to Assam via NH-37. Initial investigations suggest that the syndicate had planned to use the Cachar and Sribhumi districts as transit points before moving the contraband further into mainland India.

The seized drugs, along with the arrested individual and the seized vehicle, have been turned over to the relevant authorities for further examination and legal action. The successful operation is expected to deal a significant blow to the inter-state narcotics syndicate and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts between the Assam Rifles and the DRI in dismantling such trafficking routes.
