A Marine Police officer was injured after being shot during a training exercise at a Marine guard post in Lahad Datu on the previous day. The injured party, a Constable 2nd Class, suffered a wound to his left middle finger and abdomen. The Chief of Police in Lahad Datu, Dzulbaharin Ismail, stated that the police received an initial report on the incident on the same day.

The incident occurred when another officer was disarming his firearm at the scene. The injured officer received initial treatment at the Lahad Datu Hospital before being transferred to Tawau Hospital for further care.
