Alcaraz returns to action in iconic partnership with Williams

Carlos Alcaraz returned to action following a 133-day absence due to a wrist injury, partnering with Serena Williams at the US Open for a memorable mixed doubles match. The duo, who had previously won the US Open mixed doubles title in 1998, received an overwhelming reception from the New York crowd. Alcaraz, now 24, and Williams, 44, showcased exceptional chemistry and camaraderie throughout their 5-3, 4-1 victory over Lloyd Glasspool and Erin Routliffe of Great Britain and New Zealand.

Williams, who had not competed in a singles match since suffering a knee injury at Wimbledon, expressed her excitement at returning to Arthur Ashe Stadium, stating that she never expected to be back on this court. Alcaraz admitted to feeling nervous before the match, but quickly found his rhythm and enjoyed the occasion, with Williams providing encouragement and support throughout.

Despite their impressive opening-round performance, the pair fell in the quarter-finals to Flavio Cobolli and Belinda Bencic of Italy. Williams will not compete in the US Open singles but will continue her comeback, starting with a singles appearance at Queen's Club in London on June 9.
