After 20 years, Paramount plans sequel to ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’

After two decades since the release of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" (2003), Paramount Pictures is currently developing a sequel to the romantic comedy, featuring Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, according to Deadline. The project is still in its early stages, with no actors cast yet and the screenwriter and plot details undisclosed.

Kate Hudson is involved as a producer, with aspirations that Matthew McConaughey would reprise his role as Benjamin Barry. The original film, directed by Donald Petrie, centered on the relationship between journalist Andy Anderson (Hudson) and advertising executive Benjamin Barry (McConaughey), who were entangled in a complex dynamic - Andy aiming to write a story about the relationship between men and women, while Benjamin bet he could make her fall in love with him within ten days. However, their initial intentions unraveled.

The initial success of the film is noteworthy, as it grossed over $178 million at the box office upon its release in 2003. The announcement of the sequel coincided with Matthew McConaughey's comments on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, in which he referred to "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" as "an endless treasure," noting that he receives royalties from the film and considers it "his favorite romantic movie and a landmark in romantic comedy history."

McConaughey achieved stardom in the early 2000s with romantic comedies before transitioning to more serious roles, earning an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in "Dallas Buyers Club" in 2013. Kate Hudson, who has earned two Academy Award nominations for "Almost Famous" and "Song Sung Blue," is more frequently associated with romantic comedy successes, most recently appearing in the television series "Running Point."
