A robot sprinter shatters a 100-meter record again as sparks fly at China’s robot competition

A robot sprinter eclipsed the 100-meter record once more during China's technological exhibition. This was the second consecutive day the robot achieved this feat, shattering a time of 8.84 seconds. The previous record stood at 8.86 seconds, set just four days prior. The event marked the second year of the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing, with over 2,000 humanoid robots participating in various competitions, including soccer, boxing, and running.

However, the triumph was marred by several robot runners colliding with a padded barrier, causing them to crash and spark fires. Firefighters extinguished the flames, and the injured machines were carried away on stretchers. The champion robot, Tiangong Ultra, developed by the Beijing Innovation Center of Humanoid Robotics, clinched two of the three records.
