4 from Pune stranded as floods wash away Nepal border post

Four residents of Pune are currently stranded in Jilong City, Tibet after a series of devastating floods in Nepal's Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts destroyed the immigration office at the Nepal border. This unfortunate event has left them without a land route to return home, according to the Pune District Information Office (DIO). The group, consisting of Smita Pawar, Yogini Patil, Dinesh Bhosale, and Pooja Bhosale, were en route back from their pilgrimage to Kailash Mansarovar when the floods struck.

Fortunately, all four individuals are safe. However, two members of the group, Smita Pawar and Yogini Patil, experienced severe hypoxia or altitude sickness while at Mansarovar. Due to their condition, they required continuous oxygen support and needed to be urgently transported down to Jilong City for medical attention. Unfortunately, the medical facilities available locally are inadequate to address their urgent needs.

Consequently, the stranded pilgrims have urgently sought arrangements for an airlift from Jilong City to Kathmandu, where they can receive the necessary specialized medical care. The DIO release states that the border crossing has been permanently closed and the local conditions remain unsafe, necessitating the urgent medical airlift.
