2027: Tinubu’s absence at peace accord shows non-commitment to peace – Adebayo

Prince Adewole Adebayo, the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu's absence from the recent peace accord event. Adebayo argues that sending Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to represent Tinubu demonstrates a lack of commitment to peace in the 2027 election.

In an extensive interview, Adebayo elaborates on the significance of the peace accord, its goals, and the consequences of Tinubu's absence. The peace accord, which Adebayo signed last week, emphasizes the importance of elections based on issues, avoiding identity-based campaigning, hate speech, violence, and corruption. He commends the Peace Committee for their seriousness in pursuing a national objective, but asserts that peace is achievable only through electoral justice.

Adebayo believes that a truly independent Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and non-politicized law enforcement agencies are crucial for achieving a peaceful electoral process. He warns that if the electoral system remains unchanged, the Peace Committee will be rendered ineffective, and recent examples of rogue governors and politicians undermining peace by interfering in elections further illustrate the need for reform.
