Zoomlion disinfects assemblies in Central Region

On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Zoomlion Company Limited embarked on an eight-day disinfection and disinfestation campaign across 22 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Central Region. The initiative, in partnership with the Central Regional Coordinating Council and District Assemblies, targeted schools, markets, health facilities, and public spaces like convenience stores, identified through risk assessments.

The flooding, which caused environmental contamination and raised disease outbreak risks, prompted this response.

Led by a team of ten, including two women, the operation kicked off in Cape Coast at the Kwamena Walker Avenue public toilet. From there, the team moved to disinfect refuse container sites, dump sites, school libraries, and other public areas in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality and the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District.

During a media briefing, Zoomlion's Central Regional Manager, Noah Addo Opey, highlighted the health benefits, emphasizing the reduction of bacteria, viruses, and vector-borne diseases like cholera and malaria. He urged the public to maintain cleanliness and support the efforts.

Residents were advised to keep surroundings clean, clear stagnant water, properly dispose of waste, and maintain hygiene in homes and public places. The Central Regional Minister, William Goku, and the Regional Environmental Officer promised full support for the exercise, urging the public to cooperate for its success. Assemblyman Hon. James Arthur praised the timely intervention, noting its importance for post-flood recovery.
