Zoomlion begins disinfestation, fumigation in Eastern Region

Zoomlion Ghana Limited has launched a disinfestation and fumigation campaign across all 33 Municipal and District Assemblies in the Eastern Region. The initiative, which began on August 21 and is set to conclude on September 30, is a part of the company's corporate social responsibility to mitigate the risk of waterborne diseases like cholera, malaria, and typhoid following recent floods.

The Vector Control Unit of Zoomlion is collaborating with the assemblies to carry out mass spraying in high-risk areas including markets, lorry parks, and refuse sites.

The exercise aims to eliminate pathogens, control disease vectors, and restore safe conditions in flood-affected regions, as the floods have significantly contaminated the environment. Cynthia Gbadago, the Eastern Regional Manager of Zoomlion, emphasized that the firm is taking this action to safeguard the affected communities. She informed the media that the company had educated locals, particularly market women and residents, on proper food and water covering during the exercise.

After the fumigation process, Gbadago advised people to wait for four to six hours before re-entering the treated areas. Prince Osei Kissi, the Eastern Regional Environmental Officer, praised Zoomlion for its partnership with the assemblies and assured continued support to ensure the communities remain free from waterborne diseases.

Traders at Agartha Market in Koforidua, including Georgina Agbesi and Afia Adutwumwaa, expressed hope that the fumigation would eliminate harmful insects and rodents, and appreciated the efforts of Zoomlion and the assemblies in providing a safer environment.
